Amy Sacco is a nightlife legend, best known for the iconic Bungalow 8. During the early millennium, Bungalow 8 was not only THE place to be in New York, but also THE hardest place to get into. Despite enormous success, Sacco shuttered its doors in late 2009, before establishing a members-only versionin London. In 2012, Amy Sacco returned to her roots by opening “No.8” on West 16th street in Manhattan.
Amber & Smoke caught up with the preeminent doyenne of the New York scene to ask her about her own fragrant choices.
What is your favorite fragrance & why has it become your signature?
I have always been drawn to Opium by Yves Saint Laurent, as my base……..It is strong, musky and layered much like my personality. However, I didn’t consciously know that when I first bought it as a teen. Over the years I have tried many but come to know this as my signature base. I love to add a generous dose of Jo Malone grapefruit when I am feeling especially festive and a touch of Francois NARS vanilla from time to time when I am feeling more Melancholy.
What memories or emotions does your fragrance stir within you?
Smell to me is the most powerful sense…I remember every passionate dalliance by name and by fragrance…..as I am sure most women do!
If that is so, how do you like a man to smell?
My all time favorite men’s fragrance or lest we say man…vetiver!!
What do you think your fragrance says about you to others?
Sacco: I think it speaks to our personality most…so if you want to know what kind of mood i’m in?!…..whisper something in my ear and see if you can tell by my perfume!
